Diamond ore is one of Minecraft's most valuable natural resources, crucial for crafting high-tier tools, weapons, and armor. Each ore block drops one diamond when mined with an iron or diamond pickaxe. Diamonds appear most commonly in small veins below Y-level 16, typically near lava pools in deep underground caves. In the Java Edition, diamond ore generates in blobs of 1-10 blocks, using a special distribution pattern that makes them rarer near bedrock and more common at certain Y-levels. The ore can generate exposed to air in cave systems or completely surrounded by stone.

How to Find

Diamonds can be found between Y-levels -64 and 16, with peak distribution at Y-level -59. They generate in veins of 1-10 blocks and require an iron pickaxe or better to mine. Using Fortune III enchantment increases drop rates. Strip mining at optimal Y-levels and caving in deep caves are effective strategies. Diamonds also appear in chest loot from structures like Desert Temples and Mineshafts.
